2024 Caro Bowl – Round 5 & 6 Review

  • Post category:Caro Bowl / News

The Caro Bowl season is heading into its final stages and Rounds 5 and 6 delivered thrilling action as teams vied for critical points ahead of Finals Night on November 29. With high-stakes battles, nail-biting finishes, and standout performances, the competition is reaching fever pitch.

Men’s Competition:
Next Gen and Pakuranga were the weekend’s big winners, with both teams securing two critical victories that all but assure them of spots in the final.

Next Gen continued their unbeaten run, comfortably defeating Remuera on Friday night before edging past Blockhouse Bay on Sunday. Led by the in-form Rob Reynolds, they remain the favourites to retain their title. However, Pakuranga has proven to be formidable challengers in their debut season. Their Friday night showdown against Karaka was an epic battle that spilled into the early hours, finishing at 1:30 am after being moved indoors. The win effectively ended Karaka’s finals hopes and solidified Pakuranga’s grip on second place. With a full-strength squad, including Ajeet Rai, Pakuranga could pose a serious threat to Next Gen if they make the final.

At the bottom of the table, Cockle Bay endured a tough weekend with losses to Parnell and Royal Oak. Their final match against Next Gen this Friday leaves little hope of climbing out of last place and avoiding relegation.

Women’s Competition:
Next Gen has already secured their place in the final with an unassailable lead at the top of the table. They now have two weeks to prepare as they enjoy a bye this Friday, looking to fine-tune their game ahead of the championship clash.

Parnell sits comfortably in second place after two dominant wins over the weekend, leaving them eight points clear of Bucklands Beach. Friday night’s match between these two sides will determine whether Parnell can lock in their finals spot. Meanwhile, Campbell Park and Kohimarama, both winless this season, will face off in a battle to avoid the wooden spoon.

The Week Ahead:
With Finals Night looming, the stakes are higher than ever in the penultimate round. Key matches to watch this Friday include:
Men’s Feature Match: Pakuranga vs. Blockhouse Bay – Can Pakuranga secure their finals berth?
Women’s Feature Match: Parnell vs. Bucklands Beach – A must-win for Bucklands Beach to keep their finals hopes alive.
