Since retiring from professional tennis, James has devoted his time and energy to developing New Zealand’s top junior and senior players. He has helped coach many aspiring players to represent NZL at junior and senior Davis Cup and Fed Cup level. His commitment and enthusiasm to the game is infectious.
James has 27 New Zealand National titles, is three-time NZ Residentials Singles Open champion and seven time NZ Residentials Doubles Open champion. He spent nine years as a NZ Davis Cup player with experience competing against Davis Cup teams from Australia, Brazil, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Labanon, Indionesia, China, Taipei, Japan, Korea and China.
James has 1 ATP Tour doubles title— Hong Kong Open, and 2 ATP Challenger doubles titles—Sapot and Warsaw Open. He has 23 ITF Satellite/Futures titles and was Wimbledon and French Open Doubles Junior Champion. Career high doubles ranking #89 and singles #327
Currently, James is the Tennis Auckland Regional Performance Manager. In the past, James captained both Tennis NZL’s Junior and Senior Davis Cup Teams. Previously he successfully managed Tennis NZL’s High Performance programmes. James has developed multiple National title holders and transitioned Junior players to professionals.

With a wealth of international coaching experience, Mat endeavors to share his knowledge of the game with his players whether it be with an up and coming junior or a Cardio Tennis class. He is excited to be back and coaching in NZ.
Mat has recently returned to New Zealand after four years living in Melbourne. There he was directing one of Australia’s largest coaching programmes.
Mat has travelled extensively throughout his career to develop his own game and expand his coaching knowledge. In 2015 he was named Tennis New Zealand club coach of the year.
With 15+ years of coaching experience, Mat is a valuable addition to our coaching team.

Coaching Experience
Peter uses his passion to encourage and support players at all ages and levels. Peter aims to develop his students playing skills and at the same time create an enjoyable learning environment.
Peter has experience coaching the National Participation Programmes at club/centres across Auckland.
He has also delivered Tennis Hot Shots classes to a number of schools over the last five years.
Peter has a very calm and patient manner about him which creates a great learning environment for his students.

Kay Liang

Kay has a huge passion for tennis and loves to transfer this onto his players. He has a great skill in encouraging kids to engage with tennis and help them to develop their performance and skill techniques.
Kay has been playing tennis since he was 7. He started competing in regional and national tournaments in Taiwan at the age of 9, and in his junior years he played in multiple international ITF tournaments.
Kay has knowledge and experience in coaching across all ages and abilities, he has experience coaching Tennis Hot Shots, Tennis Xpress & Cardio Tennis.
Kay coaches a broad range of players from juniors to adults, beginners to advanced.

Dan Brown

Coaching Experience
Dan was born in Auckland and started tennis at the age of 4. Tennis has been a part of his life for 29 years and during that time his experience comes from international players/coaches/tournaments.
He transitioned into coaching after returning from a few years playing interclub/professional futures tournaments in China, Germany, France, Turkey and Australia. After a few years coaching at various clubs in Auckland he landed the position of head coach at the Pakuranga Tennis Club. After 5 years he has now joined the Tennis Auckland Team and looks forward to helping the development of players in the programme.

Connor Williamson

Coaching Experience
Connor started started training at Scarbro TC in squads at age 8. Over the next 10 years he competed with great success in club, school, regional, national, and international events, even representing New Zealand in the Australian teams competition.
Connor travelled the world competing in France, Australia, Japan, New Caledonia and Fiji. He was the Auckland regions highest ITF-ranked Junior in 2016. He played Division 1 College tennis and graduated with an Exercise Science Degree (with a Minor in coaching) in 2021.
For the past 16 months he has been coaching full-time in California working with children of all ages and adults in both groups and private lessons.
Connor has a real passion and enthusiasm for coaching and really enjoys the interaction with all ages. He is very excited to be back ‘where it all started’ and loves sharing his skills, love of tennis experiences with others.

Sophie Greenhalgh

Sophie is a Junior Coach skilled at youth development and athletic programming. She is well known for helping others and consistently motivates and inspires her students. Her players always leave the court with a big smile on their face!
Daughter of a National Davis Cup Representative, tennis is in Sophie’s blood.
Sophie is a regular attendee in the Tennis Auckland Coaching Programme and often has lessons with dad.
She has experience in delivering Hot Shots, blue stage through to green and is a regular Holiday Programme coach.

Background & Coaching Experience
JC’s love of tennis extends to all aspects of the game; equipment, restringing, and fitness. He sees tennis as a competitive and social sport, that also has the added benefit of there being enough depth in the sport to always offer something more to learn.
He began playing competitive tennis as an adult when he arrived in New Zealand from France. He has enjoyed the fellowship and skill-development that club tennis offers. He remains active in Interclub and local tournaments.
JC began coaching at local clubs seven years ago and is currently the club coach for Pukekohe East Tennis Club, where he works with everyone from beginners to Grade 1 Interclub players.
JC sees young people return to the sport throughout their lifetime, sometimes with old friends, sometimes with siblings; tennis becomes a unifying aspect of life.

Jasmine started her tennis doing Hot Shots when she was 7 years old. Since then, she has risen through the ranks at the Cockle Bay Tennis club where she is now an integral member of the Women’s Caro Bowl Reserve team.
Having competed in numerous national and regional tournaments, Jasmine has a wealth of experience playing competitive tennis.
Jasmine has successfully represented Auckland in the National Junior Teams event and has been sharing her passion for the game by coaching Hot Shots since 2021.
