Sunnyhills Tennis Club won the Scarbro Caro Bowl Women’ s competition for the first time in the club’s history when it beat Parnell in the final on Friday night. The Sunnyhills team made the final in its very first appearance in the competition last year but went one better in 2013 to claim the trophy. The club won both doubles matches in straight sets before going on to win three singles matches and take an insurmountable lead. Parnell missed the services of Pavlina Nola who was unable to take the court in the final due to a knee injury and her absence was sorely missed by the Parnell side.
The men’s Scarbro Caro Bowl Men’s competition was won for the second straight year by Parnell who beat Blockhouse Bay in a repeat of the final played the previous year. The doubles honours were split but former Davis Cup stalwarts Mark Neilsen, Alistair Hunt and Steve Downs all won singles matches in straight sets to keep the trophy in the Parnell cabinet. A large crowd attended and enjoyed the balmy Auckland weather and Parnell hospitality on Scarbro Caro Bowl Finals night.
Congratulations to both Parnell and Sunnyhills for winning the Scarbro Caro Bowl competitions in 2013 and Tennis Auckland thank all of the teams, managers, players and sponsors involved this season for their support of the competition. Tennis Auckland also acknowledges the ongoing support of Scarbro Construction for this premier event.
