The 2024 Caro Bowl season kicks off on Friday, 1 November, with top-tier tennis action unfolding at club venues across the Auckland region. The stakes are high as Next Gen, the reigning champions in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions for the past two years, aim to complete a historic three-peat. But with fierce competition lining up, could this be the year they are finally knocked off their throne?
Caro Bowl never disappoints when it comes to elite talent, and this season promises to be no different. Fans can expect to see New Zealand’s finest players, including former and current Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup stars like Rubin Statham, Ajeet Rai, Paige Hourigan, and Jade Lewis. Adding even more intrigue, a number of talented Australian pros will also be competing, spicing up the competition as they take on our local heroes.
In the Men’s competition, all eyes will be on Pakuranga, who are making a splash in their debut Caro Bowl season. With Ajeet Rai and a squad of top Australian pros on their roster, they are primed to make a serious bid for the title. If they can get their star players to the court, Pakuranga might just be the team to unseat Next Gen’s dominant Men’s squad. The Women’s competition sees Next Gen once again looking formidable, but Parnell appears to be a strong challenger, with both teams likely to battle it out for supremacy. However, as always in Caro Bowl, injuries and player availability can turn the tide at any moment, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
Welcome to Newcomers!
A special shout-out to Pakuranga, who join the Men’s competition this year, and Blockhouse Bay, making their debut in the Women’s competition. Both clubs are set to bring fresh energy and excitement to the league, adding more depth to an already stacked field of contenders.
