The US Open gets underway in New York next Monday. The tournament is the final Grand Slam event in 2014 and Auckland’s Marina Erakovic has drawn 20th seed and former US Open Champ Svetlana Kuznetsova in the opening round. Marina has been gearing up for the Open and preparation has gone well. She is through to the semi finals of the doubles in New Haven where she faces Caroline Garcia and Monica Niculescu tomorrow.
Here is what Marina had to say a few days before the US Open starts……..
“My lead up to the US Open has been going well. I had a a bunch of good matches in Washington D.C and a couple of close ones in Cincinnati and New Haven. I really enjoy this time of year, the US Open is a great event and to me it feels more like a basketball event than a tennis grand slam. I am hitting the ball well, the body is healthy and I am still in New Haven competing in the doubles Semis tomorrow. Kuznetsova in the 1st round will be a tough match, I was looking forward to playing her in the final of D.C. but just missed out, therefore I am glad I get a crack at it at the Open.
