James Pascoe was very involved in the tennis community, a keen supporter of Auckland Tennis and the Ngatira Tennis Club as well as representing New Zealand in lawn bowls.

In 1924 he set up the Pascoe Cup, the longest running corporate sponsorship event in New Zealand which is still competed for and highly prized today between corporate teams.
