Auckland school Ponsonby Intermediate were the recent winners of a World Tennis Day competition promoted by Tennis New Zealand. Their prize was a “behind the scenes” guided tour of the ASB Tennis Arena courtesy of Tennis Auckland. Eleven tennis crazy students from the school were treated to a tour of the player facilities and stadium by ASB Classic and Heineken Open Tournament Director Karl Budge and Mark Lewis, former coach of Wimbledon champion Michael Stich. Karl enthralled the students with information about the players and facilities during tournament weeks before they were taken on to centre court for some tennis time. Deputy Principal Nick Wilson said the tour was a real treat for his tennis mad students who all had a fantastic visit to the ASB Tennis Arena. Congratulations to the school for winning the World Tennis Day competition and we hope that many of you will return to watch the tennis action next summer!
