Ray Keenan

It is with regret that the Pompallier Tennis Club and Tennis Auckland would like to inform the Auckland tennis community of the sad passing of Pompallier Tennis Club Founder – Ray Keenan.

Ray had been ill for some time and we send our very best wishes to his son Michael, his wife Margaret, and to all the Keenan family.

Ray devoted his life to Pompallier Tennis Club – as founder, President, player and organiser. His enthusiasm for Pompallier knew no bounds and the Club would not be where it is today without his terrific support and energy.

Ray was very well known throughout the Auckland tennis community. Ray was a fine player in his day and will be remembered for his determination and dogged competitiveness in the matches he played. He was a Caro Bowl player for many years, loved to practice with Auckland’s up and coming juniors on an old asphalt court in Parnell, and in 1990/91 he served a term as President of Tennis Auckland.

Ray’s Requiem Mass will be at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 510 Riddell Road, Glendowie on Monday 15 September at 1 pm.

Ray will be sadly missed.
