It was Tennis Auckland’s pleasure to host the Rob Courtney Memorial Champs at Scarbro Tennis Centre over the weekend. One of the key events on the Wheelchair Tennis calendar, the event celebrates the life of wheelchair tennis legend Rob Courtney, and saw players from Auckland, Waikato and Christchurch take to the courts in both singles and doubles competition.
The two days of competition saw some great action with a mixture of experienced campaigners and new players coming through.
Rob’s two brothers, Carrick and Steve Courtney, not only donated prize money towards the tournament but were also on hand to present the trophies to all players as well as share a story or two.
Rob was a great supporter of wheelchair tennis in Auckland and personally helped many players to access equipment, coaching and court hire.
