Sacha Jones made her first appearance in the Scarbro Caro Bowl for the Sunnyhills Tennis Club in the second round of the competition last Friday. Jones won her singles against Bridget Liddell from Glendowie but surprisingly lost her doubles match. Sunnyhills defeated Glendowie 5-1 with top juniors Paige Hourigan and Kelly Drew scoring singles victories. Parnell defeated defending champs Royal Oak by the same score line with the only loss coming in the top singles when Emily Fanning went down to Leela Beattie in straight sets. Pompallier bounced back after a loss last week to beat Remuera 5-1 while Kohimarama had a bye.
In the Scarbro Caro Bowl men’s competition Cockle Bay earned its second straight win of the season with a 5-1 victory against Royal Oak. Cameron Norrie overwhelmed Oliver Statham without losing a single game in the top singles while the Meredith brothers both won their matches. Parnell defeated Remuera 2 without the loss of a match and Blockhouse Bay won both doubles matches to beat Kohimarama by 4 matches to 2. The remaining match in the competition saw Remuera 1 beat Pompallier by 6 matches to 0.
Round three of the Scarbro Caro Bowl is scheduled for Friday 18th October.
