Favourites Fire Opening Round Shots
The first round of the Tennis Auckland Scarbro Caro Bowl competition kicked off last Friday evening in calm conditions at tennis clubs around Auckland. Competition favourites in both the men’s and women’s matches flexed their muscles and made their winning intentions quite clear on opening night.
In the men’s section, defending champs Blockhouse Bay overwhelmed the second team from that club although they did drop a point when they lost the bottom doubles. Parnell were too strong for Remuera but teenage hope Macsem Sisam picked up a good win over Steve Downs in three sets. Royal Oak ousted Kohimarama and Cockle Bay got off to a perfect start with a resounding 6-0 victory over Pompallier.
The women’s contests saw the favoured teams on paper comfortably defeating their opponents. Sunnyhills beat the Royal Oak 2 team without losing a match and last year’s runner up Parnell easily beat their second team. Royal Oak 1 managed to secure a 4-2 win over Remuera and Pompallier opened their campaign with a very solid 5-1 result over Kohimarama.
The next round of matches are scheduled to be played on Friday October 30th.
