The scene is set for some exciting semi final tennis in the Scarbro Caro Bowl competition scheduled for this Friday night. Remuera 1 topped the table after the last round of matches in the men’s competition by beating Blockhouse Bay 4-2. The doubles matches were shared between the two clubs but Remuera 1 won three singles matches on the night thanks to a thrilling victory by Alex Klintcharov in a third set tiebreaker against Justin Megraw. Cockle Bay secured second place and a home semi final by beating Pompallier 4-2 and finishing just one point clear of Parnell who they will play in the semis.
Blockhouse Bay ended up in fourth place and will face Remuera 1 for the second straight week in the semis where they will try hard to reverse last week’s result and earn a spot in the final for the third straight year.
Parnell headed the points table in the Scarbo Caro Bowl women’s competition and finished pool play with a resounding 6-0 victory over Kohimarama. Parnell will play Pompallier in Friday’s semi final while second placed Sunnyhills will have to front up against third placed defending champion team Royal Oak for the second time in a week. Sunnyhills won on a count back of sets against the Oak last Friday despite losing the top two singles matches. Royal Oak beat Sunnyhills in the final last year and it is very hard to pick a winner in advance of Friday’s showdown.
